Buying Coinbase 50 through a broker

Virtune Coinbase 50 Index ETP offers exposure to the Coinbase 50 Europe Index through a security held at a broker. You buy one listed investment rather than assembling the index's crypto-assets yourself. Virtune issues the ETP; Coinbase 50 is the name of the index.

Which Coinbase 50 index does the product follow?

The product follows the Coinbase 50 Europe Index, a selection drawn from the broader Coinbase 50 index. It is weighted by market value and reviewed quarterly, so larger components have a greater effect on its movements than smaller ones.

The Europe version applies component eligibility requirements. It admits assets accepted by Xetra or meeting its crypto-index restrictions under the product's index terms. The resulting exposure can differ from the broader index; the product page shows current holdings.

Buying this ETP does not mean buying shares in Coinbase or opening an account there. The investment in your brokerage account is Virtune's security, following the Europe index.

Why use an ETP for Coinbase 50 exposure?

An index ETP lets you follow a selection of crypto-assets through one holding. Virtune holds the components and manages changes to the index inside the product, while you keep the security at your broker. There are no separate component wallets or rebalancing trades for you to administer.

The selected assets are held with a custodian as collateral for the security. You own the ETP rather than the underlying coins. This is an index ETP, not a fund; how crypto index ETPs work explains the structure.

How to find the ETP at a broker

The product can be found by its full name or ISIN on the broker's platform. The order page shows the listing, trading currency, buy and sell prices and the broker's charges. An exchange listing does not mean every broker offers it, so the product page provides the available broker routes.

The ISIN SE0024738389 spans six venues: VRTC on Xetra, Euronext Paris and Euronext Amsterdam; VCOIN50 on Nasdaq Stockholm; VCOIN50E on Nasdaq Helsinki; and ETNVCOIN50 on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

The Coinbase 50 Index product page shows brokers offering those listings and the current holdings. One ISIN identifies the security even where the exchange ticker differs.

Account availability and tax treatment depend on your country and account type. The crypto ETP buying guide explains the general purchase process.

Costs of the index investment

The management fee is deducted from the product's value over time. A broker may also charge commission and currency conversion, and the difference between the buy and sell prices is the spread. These are separate costs, so the management fee alone does not describe the full cost of holding the ETP.

Risks to understand

An index can contain several crypto-assets and still fall sharply. The assets can move in the same direction, so spreading the holding across components does not remove crypto-market risk.

Crypto markets continue trading when the exchange is closed. The next ETP quote can therefore differ from the previous close. The security also has issuer and custody risks: if Virtune cannot meet its obligations, recovery depends on the assets held as collateral and the process for enforcing investors' rights. Custody failures or recovery delays can affect the result. These product risks remain part of an index investment.
