  • Virtune XRP ETP follows the price of XRP held as collateral for the security.
  • The XRP Ledger's payment asset and shares in Ripple are different holdings.
  • Its listing identifiers include VIRXRP in Stockholm and VRTX on Xetra.

Can you buy XRP through a broker?

Yes. Virtune XRP ETP is a listed security that follows XRP's price and can be held in a brokerage account.

XRP and Ripple are different things. Ripple is a company; XRP is the crypto-asset. Neither buying XRP nor buying Virtune XRP ETP gives you shares in Ripple. The guide to XRP and the XRP Ledger explains the distinction.

Why buy XRP through an ETP?

An XRP ETP offers access to XRP's price through the same brokerage account used for other listed securities. You do not need to arrange an XRP wallet or make transfers on the XRP Ledger to hold that exposure.

The product is physically backed by XRP held in custody as collateral. Holding XRP as collateral gives investors assets behind their claim on Virtune; they own the security rather than payment tokens. For XRP investors, collateral recovery and custody risks remain if the issuer cannot meet its obligations, and an XRP price move while the exchange is closed can leave a gap in the next ETP quote.

Where is the ETP listed?

Virtune XRP ETP has ISIN SE0021486156. Its tickers are VIRXRP on Nasdaq Stockholm, VIRXRPE on Nasdaq Helsinki, VRTX on Xetra and ETNVIRXRP on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Buying XRP tokens or an XRP ETP

XRP is the XRP Ledger's crypto-asset. It can be transferred on the network and can act as a currency bridge: one issued currency can be exchanged for XRP, then XRP for the destination currency. The explainer on how XRP works covers that payment use.

Buying XRP on a crypto exchange gives a crypto-asset holding. The provider can keep custody, or XRP can be transferred to a personal wallet where the holder manages the keys. Buying Virtune XRP ETP gives a security in a brokerage account. The security follows XRP's price, including price falls, but its holder cannot send the underlying XRP as a payment.
